Outfit for a Walk in the City

Practical and trendy: here’s my outfit for a walk in the city

Have I mentioned I love Milan? In case I haven’t, let me just make it official: I love Milan! And really, how could I not? For any fashion-conscious person, this place has a magical vibe. A special energy pervades the streets of downtown, between its designer boutiques and its uber-trendy lounges… And whether I’m in Milan for work or pleasure, I can never resist the lure of a nice long walk in the city.

Milan is located in the north of Italy, so temperatures begin to dip already in late September. Furthermore, window shopping in a town like this one will have you racking up miles without you even noticing. So in this time of year, the perfect outfit for a walk in the city must first of all be warm and comfortable. But please, no shapeless old sweaters or orthopedic shoes! We’re still, after all, in one of the world capitals of fashion!

My outfit for a walk in the city? Total black with sparkling details

The pictures you see were taken around dusk in Piazza del Duomo, which by the way is the first place you should visit as soon as you step foot in Milan: not only is it the site of the immense Gothic cathedral famous around the world, it’s also the strategic junction of all the city’s major shopping routes. From here, you can easily reach the breathtaking Galleria, an enclosed arcade filled with high-end boutiques, corso Vittorio Emanuele, boasting many top brands as well as the historic La Rinascente department store, and via Torino with its more affordable chain stores… whatever your budget, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to spend it all! 😉

My outfit for a walk in the city plays with the “total black” look, enlivening it with a couple of accessories that add flashes of metallic glare. I chose this color because it’s like a universal pass-key. It does the trick from morning til evening, and it’s perfect if, before dinner, you choose to pop into a nice bar for a traditional aperitivo. My outfit consisted of a soft, loose-fitting dress from the Malloni Fall Winter collection over a pair of black leggings: a perfect solution to get around town comfortably, but without looking like your stereotypical, map-gazing tourist.

I topped it all off with a pair of black Nappa leather biker boots embellished with crystals and silver studs, and a matching felt hat with the same decoration. Both are made by Loriblu, an Italian brand specializing in high-end footwear. With a few essential elements, I was able to put together a simple, practical and trendy look, which had me feeling perfectly in my element all day long. So, do you like my outfit for a walk in the city?
